little plant

He walks through the field strolling with confident air. His eyes view all the plants to pick for his own. Some were beautiful plants with great broad leaves showing dazzling color and vibrancy. Others were slender with long shooting branches reaching for the sun, shading all the others below.

Here though, he finds a sturdy little plant with leaves not too large with such strong branches. This little one was not as vibrant as the others, but it swayed in the breeze with such grace and radiated internal warmth. How could he choose another?

So he took this little plant home with him and set it out on the patio. Sure, he came by once in awhile and watered it and gave it some food. Occasionally he would wash its leaves or say hello in a kind voice. But the plant was left alone most of the time.

Being the good plant it was, it made the best of what it was given. It grew and prospered. It worked new leaves out into the sun and started to mature. It started to shade the man when he came to see it. It allowed smaller plants to grow under its tender sun sheltering leaves. The sun burned the plant and the lack of water makeg its roots shallow, but it still provided a great service to him.

His eye started to wander though and he left the plant out longer and longer without nourishment. The plant started to wither.. It lost its vitality.. It started to die... He saw this and decided to replace the plant. So, he dug it up and threw it out on the curb to die alone.

The plant was shocked. It had provided so very well but it was just not as pretty as the other plants he chose. Little plant wanted to disappear.....

But somehow, little plant found it's self transplanted into new ground. And this ground was full of nourishment and water. OH!! This felt so wonderful to little plant's roots. Leaves shot out and stems grew thick, but what is this? See a luscious glow and depth to little plant? See the thickness of its shine? Little plant was budding. The shallow roots were replaced with deep long fingers stretching into the earth holding it tight in place.

But it was lonely. No one came to touch little plant. No soft words. No times to shelter him from the sun.

Little plant decided it had to change things. Little plant pushed and blew it's buds into flowers.. Those flowers opened up to produce a fragrant scent that was then spread on the winds to the adjacent fields and valleys. Little plant was scared.. But little plant was more frightened of living the rest of it's days alone.

Soon, men from all around came to visit with little plant. They told it how beautiful it's flowers were and how intoxicating it's fragrance was to their senses. But none gathered little plant to him. Little plant almost gave up. Destined to live alone sharing it's beauty and scent but never with that special him.

As one last try, little plant asked for help. They gathered around it and said we will show you to others who wish for someone like you. Shyly, little plant said okay.

Little plant waited. waited.. waited... waited....

He called little plant and wanted to meet. Little plant agreed. Slowly, cautiously, little plant ventured into this new land.

Husbored - Rest.. take a break. The words will be here when you return.
44Doc - I am not published.
Ghost - Almost, to me, only means that I realize there is more to learn and how better to learn than those "stories" that shaped us?

Wow...I loved the pieces I read previously, but this is the best one so far. I have to take a break, but will be reading the rest. I am now a "watcher" and looking forward to your posts.
